UNITED KINGDOM

train

Some time ago a desire to visit the UK grew in me in a very strange way. I admit that it has always been a country in my "to go" list. However, even though we live so nearby, it took us a couple of years to finally travel there. Yeah, I know! Don't ask why.
Anyway, having family and friends living there made this the perfect timing, so we finally did!
The idea was to spend half of a week with family in North Yorkshire, getting to know a couple of cities there and then spend the other half of the week in London with friends before heading back home. Well, things turn out to be quite different than expected, but nonetheless I enjoyed a lot getting to know this beautiful country and amazingly warming people.
It just blew my mind how polite people are there and how much the opposite of the country I live in it is in that sense (this is not a complaint by all means). I kid you not when I'm telling you that people stop at the corner of the sidewalk, waiting for you to pass, even though there's enough space for both to cross paths. Just a matter of education and looking after each other. The fact that everyone welcomes you with a "Hi love", holds the door for you at all times and asks you how you are doing in any store. I mean seriously? It just marked a very special place in my heart. All this attitude and attention to one another just made me feel like home. It's incredible!

One of the places we visited was called York, and that's what you mostly see in the pictures below. York is just the cutest city of all times, filled with a great atmosphere and little streets that make you travel way way back in time. I just loved it! If you're a big fan of Harry Potter, I strongly recommend you to spend some time in the narrow streets there.
We visited another city called Leeds, which is also very pretty in a bigger scale. It already mixes the old with the new and the streets are way wider, but I loved it nonetheless. If you ever go there, I strongly recommend you to spend some time in Kirkgate Market, it is another atmosphere that makes you travel back in time and it is totally worth visiting. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures there, because I was holding Eva and bladibla, excuses and so on. But, that only makes you wonder and maybe visit it so I don't regret it. Ha!
Another detail I loved about this country is that there is a place as "cool" if not "cooler" than Starbucks (specially for people like me who like real coffee with no adds to it). It is called "Costa". Each place is differently decorated which I find a very cool concept and you can see the enjoyment of the baristas preparing your drinks while you wait. Highly recommend!
Enough with the chit chat and I'll leave you with the photos for now.

So yeah, I will definitely be going there more often. End the trip to London, that never happened due to sciatica pain and a back spasm at the last minute, before taking the train, and trowed me off to an ambulance ride to the hospital instead, and spend some quality time with family and friends.
Eva was so happy to finally spend some time with her grandparents and if you'd see her excitement every time she saw their cats, it would just melt your hearts. Despite of it all, I definitely had a very pleasant time there.
