IN FOCUS | NYC SHINE IN A MINUTE

NYC nail polish
Cleaning up my makeup drawer, I realized that I have two obsessions.
  1. Lipsticks
  2. Nail polishes
Who else is out there with one of this guilty pleasures? Come on, don't be shy! I know I'm not alone here.
OK so for now, let's put the lipsticks aside and focus on the nail polishes. I honestly never thought that one day I would be rambling about nails or nail polishes and yet here I am.
I find this kind of content to be helpful for people who are in doubt about a product or are just looking for new products worth trying. At least I find myself searching for this kind of feedback every so often about a bunch of different things. Let me know if this is a type of content you'd like to see more here.
Anyway, enough rambling. So one day out at the drugstore, I randomly found this brand NYC - New York Color and decided to get completely out of my comfort zone (colorwise) and get these summer colors. I do love some bright and especially pastel colors, but whenever it comes to nails I always find myself gravitating towards the darker shades.
Now, there are three things that a good nail polish has to have to really capture my attention.
  1. To dry fast.
  2. To have a big brush in order to apply the nail polish smoothly without creating lines.
  3. Last but not least, not be crazy expensive.
I tried several nail polish brands, but curiously I get more positively surprised with the cheapest range. Overall, I find that they're more long lasting and most times even have a better formulation. Crazy, right? Anyway, it might be from my nails, the way that I apply the nail polish or even from getting a bad batch from the most expensive brands, but truth to be told at the end of the day we're talking about nail polishes, and with all the mommy and housewife tasks why would I want to spend more money on something that will only last me for a couple of days.
NYC classy cream

So let's get into these three first.
We have here the shade 100 Classy Creamy which is this milky beige. It is a classic neutral/nude shade. This is the type of shade that I go to whenever I don't want to have a "too much in your face" nail polish, but still, want to wear something.

The shade 203 Sunny Manhattan is this bright orange color. I love the mix of it being a bright and full of life color and a pastel tone at the same time. As the first one above, these two have no shimmer whatsoever.

NYC Statue of Liberty
Then we have the shade 601 Statue of Liberty, which is this pastel green. This has a subtle shimmer to it, which I honestly would prefer if it didn't, but it is still a pretty color and the shimmer is so subtle that I made my peace with it.
NYC Romantic Queens

I also got the shade 101 Romantic Queens, which is this dry rose tone, also with the same kind of shimmer. It's just another everyday shade.
NYC strip me off

And then, I got this base coat 001 Strip Me Off. I actually bought this one by mistake while searching for a regular base coat. Once I got home I had to search the purpose of using this on my nails. haha!
So the idea behind it is to make it as easy as possible to change the color of your nails by just stripping off the previous nail polish instead of using a nail polish remover. (If only these existed in my high school period when I would only paint my nails to take the nail polish off during classes. Ha!) It says that it is best for when you use glitter and if you apply it in one thick coat. Almost forgot to say that it dries transparent (just like glue).
I can't say much about this because I actually only wore it once so far. I did found that it made my nail polish last way less time than usual, though.
So what don't I like about these nail polishes? Honestly, nothing besides the color range. I would love if these would come in a lot more colors. They do have a wide range of colors, but a couple more wouldn't warm anyone. Haha.
In sum, I love the formula and the big flat brush. It is super easy to apply and it does dry super fast, which is awesome! Also, the smell isn't completely unbearable like some high-end nail polishes that I have. It is definitely worth trying. Let me know if you'd like to see how they look on the nails and I'll do my best to make it justice.
Did you ever try any products from this brand? Is there any other product that you recommend? I would love to know!
