For our first family vacation we decided to keep it short and just travel to Belgium. It is very close by and it still has a lot to discover. So we hopped on our car and traveled a couple of hours to the middle of nowhere in Belgium.
It was just the vacations I needed. It reminded me a lot like my summer vacations in Portugal, in the sense of being somewhere very calm, breathing nature and relaxing as much as possible.
The first week we spent in a house close to La Roche-en-Ardenne, did some hiking, visited Coo's waterfalls and some villages nearby. The owners of the house were super friendly and welcoming. The lady made us super yummy pancakes, they gave us fresh eggs from their chickens and even offered a gift for Eva. It was pretty nice!
The second week we went even more inside nature and stayed completely away from communication. No internet, no phones, no radio, no TV. The place was close to the city of Dinant (which by the way is pretty awesome). Again we did a lot of hiking, found a cave in the middle of the forest, found traces of wild pigs (which got me scared as shit), did some geocaching, visited castles and citadels with very nice exhibitions, a palace with French gardens and the oldest orange trees in Europe with over three hundred years old, a monastery with almost nine hundred years old, among other things.
It was two weeks for family. Two weeks for relaxation. Two weeks for nature. Waking up to the birds singing, getting out of the shower to cow's moo, eating fresh eggs with two yolks each, like back in the days, washing the dishes, and so on.
I can say that after all this peace and quiet coming back to the busy city of Amsterdam was a bit overwhelming. On the other hand, my energy bar feels just in the right place to face reality again for a couple more months.
Here I leave you with some snaps of our weeks. Hope you enjoy it!
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to let me know in the comments.
