SEE YOU NEXT TIME ICELAND!

OUR ROAD TRIP THROUGH ICELAND | VOL. IIII

Iceland

So here we are at the end of our amazing road trip. In this last couple of days we moved from northwest to southwest back to Reykjavik, but not before visiting another black sanded beach with sun-bathing seals among other precious sights.
Even though the city and it's surroundings wasn't that crowded in June, coming back from a nine days trip where I could only hear the nature and see no one around besides David, Ana and Pedro, was kind of rough. I guess mostly because of the reality calling me back.
I visited quite a few interesting countries so far. I believe it is always worth going somewhere new, being it a country, city, village or even just a street. To mingle among a different culture and getting to know different habits just opens up our minds and makes us become more welcoming to everyone around.
It was kind of sad and uneasy to leave Iceland. While I was flying above the volcanoes my heart shrunk a tithe. I spent the following months thinking of how I would make a life if I moved there and debating all the pros and counts about it.
But then again, if I had moved there my life wouldn't be what it is today. I can't really know how it would be but one thing I am certain of - I am so very grateful for everything I have.
Besides, I have the opportunity to travel back there and always see new things. Prior to our visit, in 2010, the volcano Eyjafjallajökull had a massive eruption, you probably remember that due to all the disruption on the airlines caused by the enormous cloud of ashes. If it wasn't for that we wouldn't get to see the extensive fluffy lava fields that you can find in this post. Because of that I am also able to relax with a face mask made from the ashes of that same volcano, while remembering all the good moments there. You can find more about the product I am talking about in this post.
Two months after we've been there, in August 2014 the volcano Bárðarbunga erupted and it wasn't until September 2015 that the situation was considered resolved. So by now, parts of Iceland where we pass by are no longer the same. It's a constant mutation. I know this might sound bad or careless but I guess nature has it's way of doing things and we can only appreciate it and take the best out of what may be a crappy situation.
After this last eruption, tourism in Iceland grew significantly. I remember being at the station, waiting for the train, while daydreaming staring at an airline commercial with cheap flights to there. I just truly wish that the people who travel to this country respect it enough to preserve it's natural beauty.
