NATURAL BODY SCRUBS

I always liked body products and makeup since I was a young kid. It is so weird the attraction I have towards color pigments and some natural smells.
I remember being four years old in the kindergarten, making foot and hand prints with my teachers and just feeling this crazy attraction to the texture and color of the powder paints we used to have. This may sound crazy, but I loved seeing all those plastic jars full of colorful powder, which smell I can remember until this day, and have this urge of one day just sticking my hand inside one of the jars to feel the thousands of pigments.
You may think that this is so unlike me, specially because most of the time you will see me without any makeup on and wearing black. But truth is, though I may not feel comfortable using color, in some things color attracts me as if I was a moth close to a light bulb.
The beauty of natural products is the real smells they have. They may not last as long, but they don't need to be tested in animals nor do they need to be complicated and have all this bad stuff for your skin and environment. Thus you get less likely to have a bad reaction to them.
I always had a fascination with making my own natural products. Because, you see, I don't care too much about brand names and if you think about it, back in the days all the makeup and beauty related products were made at home. And even though they may not be the most convenient nowadays, some are very easy to make and so good to enjoy. But anyway, I am mumbling.

Here I bring you a very easy way of making your own hydrating scrub bars. You won't need much and believe me, after using them your skin will be thankful.
I created three different kinds, all from the same base.
One with brown sugar for a more intense scrub, other with grinded coffee for a more gentle but energetic scrub, and last but not least one with lavender (straight from my garden) to have a gentle and relaxing scrub.
Scrubbing is good to get rid of dead skin, so that your new skin can breath. But it is specially good to treat your skin and prepare it for shaving and for an intense hydration afterwards.

Here is what you'll need:
  • Coconut oil
  • Palm oil
  • Shea butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Lavender
  • Grinded coffee
  • A bowl
  • Heating resistant jar
  • Something to stir (also heating resistant)
A small disclaimer: Make sure you are buying the good kind of oils and not just the massively created oils, as I am sure you know the damages that for instance palm oil can bring to the environment. Most of the nature shops, or even markets sell very good kinds of all the products above. They may not seem super cheap, but believe me they will last a lot of time.

So you'll want to put all the oils and butter together in the jar, and place the jar inside the bowl. In the bowl you'll put boiled water, and you need to stir the butters until they are melted. This doesn't take long. The measurements depend on your own likes, I just recommend the coconut oil to be the least that you use because it is so easily melted.
On the molds you're about to use, place the ingredients separately and then pour the butters on top.
Within a couple of hours you'll have nice smelly nature scrub bars to use. Keep them in a dark and fresh place to prevent them to melt, and enjoy!
